The Study
Colleyville, TXFull-height grid wall with fluted inserts, patch and paint2023
The problem
A twelve-foot wall behind the built-in desk sat with dated cabinets and bookshelves collecting dust. After the old cabinetry had been torn out, we were left with a ragged paint line, swirled glue, and plenty of nail holes - the room almost resembled a blank slate of sorts.
What we did
After adding cabinets drawers to each end where the tall bookshelves used to be, we had to fabricate and install a new desktop and stain to match. We then drew the grid off the existing crown so the layout stayed true to the ceiling instead of the floor, built forty-eight openings out of poplar stile and rail and filled each one with reeded panel stock. Everything was filled, sanded smooth to the touch and sprayed in a deep charcoal-green so the mahogany crown and cherry cabinetry read complimentary and intentional rather than dated.
